Slip-on flanges, sometimes referred to as ‘hubbed flanges’, have a low profile hub. This flange type is usually connected to a pipe via one or two crevice welds (one outside and one inside the flange), although a single weld is also attainable.
These flanges are available in various sizes and are commonly favored for ASME class ≤ 600 low-pressure applications. The bore size of a slip-on flange (internal diameter) is larger than its connecting pipe, thus allowing it to slip over the pipe.
However, due to the absent full penetration weld between the pipe and flange, its strength is significantly low and limits its application. In some cases, If a welding neck flange cannot be used because of space constraints, this Slip-on flange can be a plausible substitute.
